About Lissa

I have been providing psychotherapy for over 15 years. My main focus has been in residential programs treating at-risk adolescents and their families. I've worked with youth and families from various parts of New Jersey. Some of that work has been with youth who have been labeled  “resistant clients” and who have often been court mandated for therapy.

I have provided individual, group and family therapy for a wide range of youth and have extensive experience in supervision of other therapists in the same field. I have considerable training in working with adolescents in general as well as working specifically with those that have caused sexual harm to others. While working full time as a clinical supervisor in a residential program, I've also been working part time in private practice in the Northern New Jersey (Bergen county) area for 8 years, continuing my work with adolescents and families as well as young adults.

I enjoy working with adolescents and helping them to navigate the tumultuous teenage years. I have also enjoyed working with young adults who are moving into the next stage in their lives. At times, I have also worked with slightly older adults.

In therapy I use Cognitive Behavioral techniques to help my clients grow and change. I also draw from motivational interviewing and a strength-based perspective. However, the most essential piece to change is within the relationship I build with my clients. A strong, positive therapeutic rapport is paramount to creating positive change.
